Audio of Press Call RE: Brunei and TPP

AUDIO AVAILABLE: Pride At Work Joins Rep. Mark Pocan and 118 Other Members Of Congress in Urging U.S. Secretary of State and U.S. Trade Representative to Boot Nation From Trans Pacific Partnership Talks

Washington, D.C. – Rep. Mark Pocan (D-Wis) and Pride at Work’s Co-President Shane Larson held a press call today to discuss how Sharia Law recently imposed in the nation of Brunei — and its inherent human rights violations — should preclude them from participating in the proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal.

Last week, a group of 119 members of Congress, including Rep. Pocan, called on Secretary of State John Kerry and U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman to stop any further negotiations with the government of Brunei Darussalam on the TPP trade agreement until Brunei addresses its human rights violations — part of its newly adopted a penal code.

The TPP, a massive new proposed trade pact that would encompass 12 countries and 40% of global GDP, is opposed by a bipartisan majority of Americans.
