In the majority of states, it is legal to fire a worker for being lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender.* Every American deserves access to a good-paying job regardless of race, religion, gender, national origin, sexual orientation, or gender identity or expression.
Pride at Work supports a federal ban on discrimination in the workplace based on sexual orientation and gender identity and expression, such as the Equality Act. We oppose any religion exemption that expands upon existing narrow religious exemptions, such as those that exist in Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
* Note: Recent developments in case law have expanded the definition of sex discrimination to cover transgender workers, but this is still a gray area of the law.
