National Executive Board Statement: Pride At Work Stands in Solidarity with Garden State Equality Workers United
As the national organization fighting to ensure that LGBTQIA+ people work, organize, and live with equality, dignity, and respect, Pride at Work stands in solidarity with Garden State Equality Workers United as they join together to exercise their right to form a union. As New Jersey’s statewide LGBTQIA+ organization, Garden State Equality shares our core value: An injury to one is an injury to all! What GSE preaches externally should also be reflected internally.
The battles trans and queer people face at this existential moment in our history are ones of life and death, and it takes all our grit, determination, strategic vision, time, and energy to persevere and build a better future for us all. GSE workers need a collective voice to ensure that fighting this righteous fight doesn’t come at the expense of their own livelihoods, health, and safety. Pride at Work stands shoulder-to-shoulder in support of our siblings at Garden State Equality Workers United.
GSE will continue to be an effective voice for its 150,000+ members in New Jersey only if its staff is organized, empowered to advance their needs, and has a true seat at the table when charting their future within the organization they are passionate about. Therefore, we urge Garden State Equality management to collaborate in good faith with their workers as they form their union and bargain their first contract thereby proving that equality, dignity and respect does, indeed, begin at home!
