Pride at Work Responds to the Trump Administration’s DACA Announcement

Washington – Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced Tuesday that the Trump administration will rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, putting more than 800,000 young immigrants at risk of deportation. Executive Director Jerame Davis offered this response:

“Donald Trump is a bully. Today’s target is the 800,000 recipients of DACA who have known no other home than the United States. For the 75,000 LGBTQ DACA recipients, deportation to a hostile country could literally mean death.

But bullies can’t help themselves. The always pick on those who are least able to fight back. Trump is playing with the lives of innocent people simply to score political points. There is no rational need to end DACA, particularly not before there is a legislative fix in place to protect these vulnerable Americans. Xenophobic, racist policymaking will not fix bad poll numbers and negative headlines.

We call on Congress to swiftly pass a clean DREAM Act, one which will permanently fix this issue and keep these young people safe. Pride at Work will not stand aside while Trump tries to uproot families and destroy lives.”
