Pride at Work Applauds President Biden’s Executive Order to Prevent and Combat LGBTQ Discrimination
WASHINGTON – On his first day in office, President Biden signed an executive order to declare the administration’s policy to prevent and combat LGBTQ discrimination as well as any overlapping forms of discrimination. The order instructs all agencies and departments to undertake the actions necessary for the federal government to enact this policy, including to fully enforce the recent Supreme Court ruling that LGBTQ workplace discrimination is illegal under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964’s sex discrimination prohibitions.
The order is among a host of other important executive orders that highlight a bold and clear set of priorities for this administration around racial and LGBTQ equality, the environment, the COVID-19 pandemic, immigration, and more. Pride at Work Executive Director, Jerame Davis, reacted:
“On day one, President Biden took his first action to keep his promise to strengthen protections for LGBTQ working people and reverse the previous administration’s insidious attacks on us. This executive order is a critical first step toward that goal and a strong statement to LGBTQ Americans that our issues and concerns are a priority in this Administration.
“And with his actions on climate change, immigration, racial equality, the coronavirus pandemic, and more, President Biden has gotten off to a great start. But there is much more we have to do to enact a pro-equality, pro-worker agenda, including repealing the trans military ban and passing vital legislation, like the PRO Act and the Equality Act. So let’s get to work!”
