Pride at Work Stands Against Efforts to Erase Transgender Americans

Washington – Yesterday, the New York Times reported that the Trump Administration is seeking to narrow the definition of gender in an effort to undermine legal protections for transgender Americans. Pride at Work leadership issued the following statements in response:

Jerame Davis, Executive Director: “Trans people will not be erased by this administration or any other. You cannot define a group of people out of existence with the stroke of a pen. We simply will not stand by while the Trump Administration attempts to yank away the hard-fought civil rights protections of transgender people.”

Shellea Allen, Co-President: “We have members who work for the federal government who are scared of what this means for their jobs and livelihoods. We have members all over the country who are deeply concern about how this will affect them at work and in their communities. Transgender people have borne the brunt of this administration’s attack since Trump’s election in 2016. We are fed up, and we will remember when we vote in just a few weeks.”

Gabe Gonzalez, Co-President: “Pride at Work will fight this direct assault on our transgender brothers, sisters, and siblings in every way we can. Our members deserve better. Rest assured, the 12 million working people in America’s labor movement will remember these attacks on LGBTQ people, on immigrants, on women, when we vote in November. We will always stand in solidarity with our Transgender and gender non-conforming siblings.”
